lima bean harvest
This is the first year we planted lima beans, and we reaped quite a crop.
I would never have thought to plant these beans, but my daughter loves eating them in a certain family soup and asked if we could plant them. Why not?!
They are actually easy to grow and a pretty plant. They are bush plants and fit well in our square foot gardening beds. We grew approximately 20 bushes and harvested approximately 500 beans, which doesn't look like a lot in pictures (as compared to harvesting tomatoes), but I am pleased with what we received.
Yesterday the beans were taken from their pods, washed, boiled for two minutes, sat in ice cold water for two minutes, dried, packaged, frozen, awaiting a cold Winter's night to be made into soup.
