My husband builds birdhouses in the hope that, yes, birds will nest in them! Mr. and Mrs. Sparrow are on their second round of children this Spring. One little baby fell from her house this morning. My husband and our faithful Labrador were out and saw it happen. Since Labradors are retrievers Arwen happily did her duty and my husband quickly got the bird from her "gentle" jaws. Besides one scratch the baby seemed to be fine (hopped right back into her home later), and my children were able to have an up close moment with the tiny thing.

(Mr. and Mrs. Wren are also scoping out one of our birdhouses. Have you heard a wren sing? It has the prettiest of songs. It will be wonderful if the Wren family settles in our yard.)
