2013 Garden in Review
This post is really for me! I had this information listed on the sidebar and updated it throughout the gardening season. The list is simply what we planted throughout 2013. My goal for 2014 is to record what we sowed in the garden AND what we reaped. I've seen other bloggers keep a record of what they reap and it gives one an idea of the abundance that can be grown and the amount of money saved by having a garden.
Our Baker Creek seed catalog arrived yesterday, and I'm already making plans for what to plant even earlier next year...even before the first planting of 2013 on March 29th. I'm finding that part of the pleasure of being a gardener is settling into the rest that the cold weather months provide and planning next year's plantings.
This time of year is also wonderful for reading, and I'm currently enjoying Beatrix Potter's Gardening Life by Marta McDowell. The author connects Potter's gardens with the drawings in her children's books, and takes the reader on a tour of the properties acquired by Potter in England's Lake District and the gardens she developed. It's a wonderful read if you like those topics, and is full of pictures to provide a visual connection to the information presented. Yes, I recommend it!
