We are nearing the end of harvesting from the garden for the year. Forty-six pounds of vegetables were added to our totals, and we are continuing to enjoy fresh eating - green beans, tomatoes, greens, squash, eggplant, garlic, potatoes, onions and herbs. I'm letting the tomato and squash plants continue even though their ripening is almost to a standstill. Flowers are still blooming, so it's a treat to continue to have fresh flowers indoors.

In 2016 we began tracking how many pounds of produce we grew and the greatest amount was grown in 2017 with 563. We are currently well under that number by about 100 pounds. I do like having the high numbers, and enjoy that this year we've grown record numbers of certain vegetables. However, I've realized what I most like is the variety of what we grow and having large numbers of staple vegetables. One year we grew over 300 (!) pounds of tomatoes, which is unnecessary. My favorite items to have large quantities of are potatoes and onions of which we grew record numbers of this year. I'm assuming the onions will last through next harvest and the potatoes through the end of this year.

Each year of gardening is different. This was a sweet one and seemed manageable, even with a busy summer schedule raising (and feeding) teenagers.
