the july garden.
May and June are months of bountiful, beautiful blooms while July and upcoming August are the months of bountiful, beautiful produce. It's been nice to begin gathering cucumbers, tomatoes, squash and potatoes. The kale, swiss chard, and chinese cabbage are continuing to produce so we are still enjoying salads. We have been diligent to water and trim so the garden is still quite lush despite the high temperatures, but not an overgrown jungle. One goal is to try to keep even the vegetable area looking pretty. One way to do this is to interplant flowers ~ cosmos, calendula, zinnias, black-eyed susan, morning glorry ~ with vegetables and it really does make a difference. The continued oppressive heat can be a discouragement, but it we received much rain last evening so we head into August with a well-watered garden.
