the saturday after thanksgiving

With the final clearing of the garden beds we found a few more vegetables that increased the total harvested to 764 pounds. Adding in the venison meat of 30 pounds, the final total harvested for 2024 is 794 pounds. This is amazing and we are happy to have full freezers and food ready for meals this winter. Having ingredients on hand makes providing a variety of nutritious meals so accessible. Eating out and ordering carryout is such a rarity for us ~ the flavor, the convenience, the frugality of cooking from home really cannot be beat. A beautiful snowfall on the Saturday after Thanksgiving puts into perspective the reward of squirreling away this goodness for when it's not convenient to go out, which will happen many times throughout the cold weather season. The final total with venison for what these harvests would have cost to purchase outright is $2,504. We are thankful.
