Brambly Hedge

No doubt you have heard of Beatrix Potter and her wonderful little books featuring Peter Rabbit, Benjamin Bunny, Jemima Puddleduck, Jeremy Fisher and other animals having great adventures. We love these books in our home! One day I hope to have them in our personal library.

While scouring the shelves at the public library one day I stumbled across another set of books similar to that of the world Beatrix Potter created. They are the Brambly Hedge books by Jill Barklem. Barklem's book are a bit larger than the hand held works of Potter. The Brambley Hedge stories are also longer (but not too long) and her drawings are quite amazing in their detail. Simply put they are beautiful works of art.

The first four books are Spring Story, Summer Story, Autumn Story and Winter Story followed up by The Secret Staircase, The High Hills, Sea Story and Poppies Babies. We have read all but Sea Story.

Potter and Barklem each have created unique worlds to display their images of animals and nature. They are both special in their own way and perfect for children. I might even say perfect for adults too. The Brambly Hedge books are now on the list for our personal library as well.
