cabbage hopes

I was hopeful for a cabbage crop.

The plants looked promising last week.
(The picture above is from three weeks ago when the leaves were approximately two inches long. This past weekend the cabbage leaves were about 6 inches long and a good two inches wide.)

And then? Silk worms.

(I was saying "gross, gross, gross" the entire time my son was near me with these creatures!)

Hope distinguished! I should have harvested when the plants weren't full grown and showed the first sign of being eaten.

On the bright side, most evenings we've been enjoying salads containing lettuces, peas and cilantro from the garden tossed with feta cheese, apples, (real) bacon bits and pecans. That's my cabbage consolation!
