oatmeal sandwich bread

I love bread. However, as I age I've become aware that I shouldn't eat as much of it as I did when younger. This time of year, though, I give myself a bit of grace, because it's cold and bread is a comfort food. That's my logic and I'm sticking with it.

I came across a new-to-me blog, Life at Cobble Hill Farm. Since I'm always on the lookout for domestic inspiration this blog is a good read. The author raises chickens, grows vegetables, cook her own food and shops frugally.

When I saw her recipe for Oatmeal Sandwich Bread, I knew I had to try it. It was amazingly tasty. I didn't use if for sandwiches, just served it warm slathered in butter - yum! The recipe calls for the dough to rise two times and then you have the baking time, so if baking you should plan on being home for a good number of hours. It's worth the wait, though. So good.

This looks great. I like to rationalize it that the house is cold and I need to use the oven - better bread than cake. :D
