old kate trail

The good thing about forgetting to post pictures of a hike our family took in August is that here in cold December I can relive the moment and remember how my view isn't always blanketed in gray!

We took a hike in late August at the Parkville Nature Sanctuary. We chose the Old Kate Trail because it was short, just under one mile, and included the view of a waterfall. This sanctuary is a short distance from downtown KC and within walking distance of downtown Parkville. Alltrails describes it as an urban forest, which is accurate. If we lived in Parkville I'd walk this easy trail frequently.

Since it was August it was nice to find that the trail was mostly shaded. It was well-marked and quiet as we saw only one other family on the trail. It was an easy walk and would be a good distance for young children. There is a longer trail option, the White Tail Trail at one and a half miles, which can be linked with the Old Kate Trail to bring it to two and a half. Now that I've looked at these pictures again it makes me think the area would be a good option for a winter hike.
