the april 2020 garden ~ all in order.

This is the seventeenth Spring we have planted a garden. What makes this year special is the amount of time we've had to get things in order. While we enjoy gardening and what it provides, our time is prioritized for our children and other responsibilties. Well, due to the circumstances we've simply had more time to stay at home.

We have been able to add mulch to the paths around the raised beds. We've created another garden bed for the potatoes. We added edging to a flower bed and since it now has more structure, I'll be able to plant vegetables there as well as flowers. I have been able to plant the entire vegetable area, which has never happened before May.

Direct sown seeds are already sprouting - kale, broccoli rapini, spinach, carrots, flowers, potatoes, green beans. The plants purchased from the nursery - cherry, beefsteak, roma tomatoes, eggplant, sweet peppers, herbs - seem happy. Perennial herbs, bushes, trees and fruit canes all seem healthy.

We have begun to harvest kale, broccoli rapini and spinach for salads. I have been dehydrating kale, oregano, parsley, sage, mint and raspberry leaves to replenish our supply.

All the beauty really is a delight! Now, to be consistent with weeding, watering, caring for that beauty, to enjoy more fruits of our labor in the near future.
