This past weekend found us on the trail again. October is so inviting for a hike ~ leaves underfoot, cool temperatures, colors of the leaves changing. Quite refreshing.

We drove a couple of hours east on I-70 from KC to Columbia to explore the woods of Rock Bridge Memorial State Park. We started out at the Spring Brook trailhead, took a turn on the Deer Run to get to the boardwalk loop to see the rock bridge, Devil's Icebox and Conner's Cave, then returned on the Sinkhole trail.

The karst topography was beautiful, interesting and the bridge and cave were stunning. We explored the cave, minimally, but it was nice to actually go into it and look around. The board walk down to the bridge and creek was broken so there really was no way to go down and explore there which was disappointing. Bonne Femme creek crossings were experienced, white-tailed deer were seen, even buck grunts were heard (a bit disconcerting).

It was a lovely morning to see this state park again. We have hiked here once before on the Spring Brook trail, but in February 2016 the trail was muddy so our experience was a bit arduous, much more enjoyable this time around.
