the 2022 garden thru july.

I have been so diligent to record our yearly garden progress over the years, until now! 2022 has been a year full of extra details to manage and I just didn't use the spare time available to blog about the garden. Every year of growth has its own unique story to tell.

The vegetable garden was expanded by a few more beds and more arches were raised to support additional squash vines. Many more flower bushes were planted (we just can't help ourselves). A beautiful garden cottage was built ~ thank you, Jesse and Roone. The garden survived the torrential rains in early June that coincided with our two week road trip to California. It also survived scorching July heat during our absence to youth camp in July ~ thankful for sprinklers and timers! It has definitely been a manic weather season.

In July we went ahead and doubled the size of the potato bed to increase what we plant next year. After harvesting the onions we have planted greens in their place to hopefully harvest in early autumn. After harvesting snow peas, squash were planted on their trellises. The overabundance of cucumber has me making freezer pickles, refrigerator pickles, cucumber salad, even cucumber salsa (new to us!). The roma tomatoes have suffered because of the heat - we have been diligent to keep them watered, but some of the leaves have literally burned. A break in the heat has brought recovery, so we'll see how much we actually are able to harvest.

August is usually the month with the greatest harvest ~ potatoes, carrots, squash, tomatoes come in droves! We are hoping the same will be said for this year.

Flowers are blooming, bees + butterflies are everywhere, fresh produce is being eaten, herbs are being dried, the freezer is being filled, and the beauty is just so lovely to be surrounded with. It never gets old being gardeners and we never cease to be thankful for it.
