the september garden.

Such beauty, blooms, and produce - still, even entering the season of autumn.

The squash almost doubled in amount and we have been enjoying the tomatillo harvest - green salsa! First carrots, eggplant have been tasted and we should enjoy more of both. Most of the sweet potatoes are still in the ground and we should take them up in early October. Recently, I made sweet potato waffles for the first time and the consensus was that they were even more tasty than my original waffle recipe. My summer planting of more green beans and kale/cabbage has kept me in fresh supply as well as filling the freezer.

We begin October with amnending the garden beds  with leaves, clearing dead plants, transplanting plants to better locations, and shoring up structures that received a beating during recent storms. These tasks are pleasant in their own way, especially against the backdrop of the changing leaves and cooler temperatures.
