to the north shore :: minnesota & lake superior ~ post 2 of 3.
After having enjoyed the North Shore in the Winter we decided to schedule our 25th Wedding Anniversary celebration in the same location with the idea of hiking new trails during the Summer. Although this took place in June, Minnesoata is far enough north that we enjoyed sweatshirt and jeans weather - my favorite. A highlight was driving to the United State-Canadian border to view the highest waterfall in Minnesota - High Falls at Grand Portage State Park. The Pinchusion Mountain Trail was one of the prettiest (flowers, ferns, creeks, bridges), well-groomed trails we've ever hiked and the views of Lake Superior were icing on the cake. The Temperance River Gorge was impressive and a very pleasant afternoon hike. The views of Lake Superior from Palisade Head and Shovel Point on a bright, sunny day were remarkable. Clear blue skies, heavy waterfalls due to flooding, lupine blooms, fun restaurants. lake beauty. It was a peaceful, celebratory time and we enjoyed getting to know this area even better.
