Late May found us traveling back to Mount Desert Island in Maine to enjoy the beauty and adventure of Acadia National Park before the busyness of summer began for our family. We had a week of sunshine and moderate temperatures making for a pleasant week of hiking and walking. Our lodging was on the "quiet side" of the island in Southwest Harbor and in walking distance of shops, restaurants and coffee. Most of our adventures were on this side of the island - Ships Harbor Trail, Wonderland Trail, Acadia Mountain Trail, Flying Mountain Trail, Long Pond Trail, St. Saveur Mountain Trail. However, we did enjoy the busier side of the island as well with shops in Bar Habor and walking/hiking the Sand Bar, Bar Island, Cadillac Mountain, Gorham Mountain, Sand Beach, Ocean Path and Jordon Pond Loop. The ascent of these mountains is really nothing compared to say, the Rocky Mountains, but they are always a workout in climbing over and through boulders.

Our adult, college-aged children are very pleasant travel companions and humored us with the hiking. They are able to do all that we planned and truly seem to appreciate the views and our time together. Jesse and I do get up early so we enjoyed coffee walks and a couple of morning mountain hikes. There is more to enjoy in Acadia National Park - 50+ hiking trails, kayaking/canoeing, bike riding, carriage rides, boat cruise tours. Hiking is our favorite way to enjoy nature so we did that activity exclusively this trip. We would so enjoy to return yet again and enjoy the refreshment and beauty of God's creation here.

Restaurants and Shops we recommend :: Clark Point Cafe (best pastries we have ever tasted!), Little Notch Bakery and Cafe, Jordan Pond House, Beal's Lobster Pier, Mt Desert Island Ice Cream, Salt Shop, Rodick's Takeout, Cool as a Moose, Jordan Pond Ice Cream and Fudge, and Acadia Quietside Shop (lovely pottery).
