part 1 of 2 ~ a touch of creativity :: dynamo

The other day I was browsing this blog and reading its early posts. Those days of this online journal detailed mostly our schooling and adventures when our family was young. Honestly, it was sweet to read the tender thoughts of motherhood in the early stages and to see the lovely faces of my children from years ago. With the advent of the teen years and young adulthood this blog morphed into a log of our {massive} garden and {frequent} hiking trips. I did overlook sharing here the {incredible} creative endeavors that Ella and Roone undertook in their teens. The omission wasn't intentional, as communication has been through social media platforms (Facebook & Instagram), but it seems appropriate to post them on this blog.

Having enjoyed stories and words from the youngest of ages, Ella showed interest in writing a book in her early teens. Jesse and I committed to figuring out the publishing portion of the project if she committed to writing the book. Using a gap year between finishing high school and beginning college Ella completed DYNAMO and edited it along the way. I was a joint editor for the book and we did in fact figure out self-publishing. Through the website Bow & Arrow Publishing we communicate about and sell DYNAMO. We use Instagram to share pictures, reader recomnendations and special sales.

DYNAMO is a Christian fantasy fiction story about family, friendship, adventure, unexpected help in time of crisis, and the power of choice. It was crafted with vivid descriptions of landscape and woven with a unique use of language. The story of Ember, Thorn, Floe, Cliff and Storm uniquely illustrates the challenges of fearful thinking, the frustrations of trusting in self, the comfort of family and friends, the need for divine intercession, and the freedom of light over darkness. Ember’s journey with her friends will undoubtedly captivate your interest, draw on your compassion and make you long for the tale to continue.

Malea W. ~ “Fantasy fiction is a genre I don’t usually gravitate towards but DYNAMO is a book I’m glad I picked. I enjoyed following Ember as she left her comfort zone, embarking on a journey filled with unknowns and drawing on strengths she never knew she had. DYNAMO is an intriguing, great read for young adults and adults alike.”

Serenity H. ~ “Each person’s unique personality and the magic within the book was very intriguing. I loved how well the author described everything, making things visual in my mind. I especially enjoyed the main character’s self-conflict and internal struggle. It was a good combo of fiction  but relatable. At the end, I found myself wanting more.“

Adrienne Anderson, author of Mundus: The First Kingdom ~ "A book about the battle between who God made us to be, the fear of being that and the anxiety we create in running away from it. I enjoyed the elemental magi and how they changed their world, protected each other and the lore of the Dynamo. I read it first by myself and then again to my daughter, who greatly enjoyed every page and begged that I would keep reading."

Hannah F. ~ "I really enjoyed DYNAMO overall, from the characters and setting, to the themes. The character development and contrasting personalities tie in so well with the world created; it truly makes for a very well written fantasy book. The themes of friendship, trusting in God, and obeying God give spiritual insight. This is a great book to read for many audiences young and old!"

Alison K. ~ "Local Author Alert. DYNAMO was a fantastic little YA fantasy fiction (Christian-based)written by a talented MCC college student I've known for a number of years. Will do as a read-aloud with my family soon. And please do judge this book by its cover because it's absolutely gorgeous."

Jayda J. ~ "As a fantasy reader this book piqued my interest. I've read a lot of books in my years but never one that taught me on a biblical standard. I would recommend this book for everyone that has been bullied or called weird. Our differences make us special and that's what makes us, well, us! The devil only twists the truth to make a lie. There's always a truth behind a deceiving lie."
